10 Tips for coping while in the waiting room

Have you ever sat in a waiting room whether in a hospital or Dr's surgery and started to feel anxious or maybe even stressed? I expect you are nodding to this! I have on many occasions, especially when kept waiting to see a Dr/Specialist for what seems like hours, you start to feel frustrated, angry and need to vent your anger out usually at the staff behind the desk.
Everyone is different when coping with their feelings, some will pace up and down, other's make grunting sounds and then there are those who will get very angry and start losing their temper. can you relate to any of these? I get very frustrated at times and also anxious while I am waiting but never taken it out on the staff, usually the person I am with.

How do you cope with these feelings while sitting in the waiting room?

These are my 10 Tips on coping while in the waiting room

  1. Ask the person at the desk how late the Dr/Specialist is running, then you will have an idea, sometimes there will be a board telling you
  2. Listen to music or meditation, great form of distraction
  3. Go for a walk
  4. Talk to other people waiting, they are probably feeling the same as you and this can be a great way to make the time go faster
  5. Read a magazine or book
  6. Look around the room at the other patients, not making it too obvious though
  7. Write things down in a notepad that you need to get done
  8. Look at posters on the walls or written information
  9. Look out the window
  10. Watch t.v if there is one if not play games on your phone
These are just 10 Tips that I use while in the waiting room, do you use any other's? please share them.

  1. Hi I’ve posted this link on PainPals regular feature Monday Magic – Inspiring Blogs for You! Great post again, Claire x

  2. Thank you Claire that is so kind of you. x

  3. Great tips - I might have to take my iPod next time as music would certainly help! I tend to fidget a lot, or distract myself with thinking of mundane things (what I need to buy at the supermarket, what things need to be cleaned at home etc).x

  4. I mainly read and listen to music or blog! X
